A week of fine weather has enabled me to get out and about again.
Visited Rye Meads on Tuesday and Fisher's Green in the Lee Valley today.
Amongst the many things seen were:
Kingfisher; Kestrel; 2xBlackcaps; 2xReed Buntings; 2xShelduck; 2xGadwall; Grassnake; Grey Heron; Bluies, Greats and Long-Tailed Tits; Peacock - Small White - Comma Butterflies; Black Swan; 2xMuntjacs.
Also, today, tried to discover the 'Orchid Discovery Trail' but discovered that the Orchids are not due til late May to mid July. Also discovered that I was on the wrong trail. Glad I didn't choose a Detective Agency career :)
Personal note: must clean spectacles before leaving home.
Planned for next week: (dependent on weather) either a local walk here in Sawbridgeworth along the River Stort or another trip to Rye Meads and then a visit to London Zoo to see their new Rainforest Life exhibit.
A few photos from this week:

Hi Graham, Lovely to hear about your days out, but had to laugh about the orchid trail. Thanks for showing your photographs. Love the black swan.
Hi GrahamC
Love your photos, especially the black swan....with a perm! Like Brenda did have a giggle about the orchid trail - shame.
BTW used to live in Sawbridgeworth, for many years, down near the railway :-)

Sounds like a great day Lovely phographs

Sounds like you had a good day, Graham :o)
I confess I too did chuckle at your orchid trail-less trail. These things happen eh!
You've got some good images there too - did you get a good view of the Kingfisher? That's another bird I would love to see, but allas, its alluding me!
Hi All,
Thank you for the kind comments - it encourages me to post up more visit results!
Kezmo: If you mean the converted Maltings apartments that look like Colditz Castle then that's exactly where I live! 8-)
Paul E: The KF gave us very good views but not close enough for a decent photo.....I'm going to try again next Tuesday.....weather permitting!
Spooky- I had friends in Sawbridgeworth for years-

Hi GrahamC,
Sounds like you've had a great week of birding! We also visited Rye Meads recently but unfortunetly didn't get to see the Kingfishers. We not too far from, we're over near Stevenage in Knebworth!
We went to Amwell Nature Reserve yesterday which is only a couple of miles away from Rye Meads, if you haven't been it's definately worth a visit http://www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk/NatureReserves/Flagship/amwell. There is 3 hides and plenty of birds and other wildlife on offer, including lots of nesting Cormorants, Redshanks, Lapwings and we were also blessed with a Red Kite circling over us for a good 5 minutes!

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the link - great to see that I can get to it via train and shanks' pony! I'll pencil it in to my calendar for a future visit!
Looking to go back to Rye Meads tomorrow (Tuesday) and then hope to visit London Zoo on Thursday - for their new Rainforest Life exhibit....
And seeing as how the rugby season has just finished for us (Hertford Town) I might try and get down to the Natural History Museum for their new Butterfly House on Saturday.....
IF I make all of them I'll try and do a write-up next week.....
Cheers, Graham
Sounds like you're going to have a busy week! That new exhibit at London Zoo looks good, I saw something about it on the news the other week, I'll hopefully go to see it soon too!
Will look forward to your write ups!
Daniel
Hi Graham, lovely to hear about your days out.
Thanks for showing your photographs.
Great shot of the Black Swan.
I don't know if you are aware of the Black Swan request appeal run by the BTO.
http://www.bto.org/birdatlas/taking_part/blackswan.htm
The above link will give you the info regarding the appeal and how to report any sightings.
