Tern Raft

I've only ever seen them used at inland sites. At our local reserve, which is a restored gravel pit in Berkshire, Common Terns have used them and successfully raised chicks.

I'm afraid I have no idea whether Arctic Terns would use them or whether they could be deployed in saltwater bays.

The suitability of a raft would depend on the conditions of the bay in question. Nesting rafts are great for helping birds like common terns find safe nesting sites but they have to be stable and adaquately protected from storm waves, currents, tides and wind.  You might be interested to have a look at our advice here.
