Hello
I am a masters student studying sound and music for interactive games.
For my major project I am creating a system of bird song generation, with dynamic changes between calm &alarm calls, due to enemy distance..
This project will involve identifying syllables within bird calls, and also creating probabilities for what syllables will follow each other, then programming them into my system to create a realistic birdsong generator. I will also be programming some macro birdsong interaction algorithms.
I will be focusing on british passerines such as blackbird, wren, redstart and robin.
Anyway the questions...
Are there any bird song experts who:
Have been looking into the structure of birdsong?
Have been looking at birdsong interaction?
Have been looking into bird calls in reaction to danger?
Also:
Are there any work groups/forums who are focusing on these areas?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then please get in touch/point me in the right direction.
Thanks alot
Aiden
I'm not an expert, but would recommend this book - http://www.soundapproach.co.uk/books/sound_approach.php It was put together by a group of serious ornithologists, draws on a whole lot of very new research, and represents a huge step forwards in our understanding of bird vocalisations. Lots more info on their website, plus contact details.

Whilst that looks very interesting, I am already familiar with sonogram analysis of birdsong. I am more interested in the language and the way that birds structure their songs, than identification of birds.
Thanks tho!
Hey all, Over the last few months i have created a number of birdsong generators. I am now looking for ideally birdsong experts, or alternatively anyone (there are a few questions that are only for experts) to participate in a survey aimed to find out the effectiveness of my birdsong generators.
All participants are welcome, the survey should ouly take 10 minutes at absolute most.
Please find the survey here

Thanks all
