The DEFRA review of the licensing regarding cormorant, goosander and red-breasted merganser has been announced. This review found no reason to lessen the protection currently given to these species and so the licence system stays in place. They have also concluded that Fishery Management Advisors (FMAs) will be appointed to help fisheries managers implement alternative control methods, and to assist them in applying for a licence if necessary.
