To me this sounds a bit like a blackcap, look up their song online and see if it sounds similar to what you've been hearing. A dunnock sounds similar but to my ears their notes are quicker and less distinct

Blackcap seems likely. It always starts with a few insipid “hweet”s before getting going with a sweet song. I had the chance for a walk over today to try to get a view but of course it stopped singing for just the period whilst I was there.
