Hi there
How do you buy your bird food?
Do you order on-line, or do you buy from a Stockist like the RSPB
Do you buy in bulk, or what you can afford.
What is the foodstuff you use most of?
Any secrets to save money?
Regards
Kathy and Dave
When I can afford it I buy the 12.75kg bags of Ultiva Original Mix from Garden Birds Supplies online, and try to work it so I can take advantage of their special offers (usually lots of free food or free feeders etc.). To keep the birds going if I've run out of that and can't afford another big load (there's no point buying smaller quantities as they love it so much it's gone in no time) I buy bags (usually around 2kg in size) of my local garden centre's own sunflower hearts, and I always provide Tesco Value mixed dried fruit (I buy two bags a week during my weekly food shop).
I have not seen one of these before, may look in to getting one. Goldfinch Flockers
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
you can get them here:

Until last night I have bought everything locally and in bits and bats. I decided it was getting out of hand so I made a bulk order on-line from the Really Wild Bird Food Company - they also sell the goldfinch flocker. Their prices didn't seem too bad and I liked the website! I did surf round a bit but lost the will to live in the end.
I ordered - sunflower heart chips, safflower, nyjer, raisins, peanut granules, berry suet pellets, dried mealworms and 2 suet/peanut coconut shells to replace two dilapidated ones I have been refilling myself with a home made mix, which are almost at the end of their useful lives. I still have about 5k of premium mixed seed that isn't being eaten by the birds at the moment.
I intend to buy some storage bins from the local "Just What You Need" shop.
Cheers, Linda.

Contrary to what you have all have found. I bought the berry suet pellets a few days ago, and not one has been eaten ! This morning I mixed them with sunflower hearts and yes, you guessed it, the hearts all vanished and the pellets were left.
How strange! I mixed mine with sunflower hearts and mealworms. I was left with a feeder full of seeds!!!!
Hi,
I buy 10 kg bags of wild bird seed from a local seed and pet food merchant- costs £5

Love your 'signature' Seymouraves! So true!
I buy all of my seed from my local Sunday market from a couple that are there year round whatever the weather! I like to support them and I love their mixes! I buy the 'robin' mix: peanut kibbles, berry suet pellets, sunflower hearts and mealworms, and also the 'songbird' mix: black sunflowers, crushed oats, berry suet pellets, millet, and sunflower hearts, and I mix both together. I also buy bags of sunflower hearts for the feeders for the goldfinches mainly! (Mine don't seem to like nijer!), and also peanuts for another feeder. Then I get 'value' sultanas from Tescos and also any apples/pears that are being sold off! I buy my fat balls in either B&M or Home Bargains which sell 6 for 49p!
Couple of weeks ago, my 'suppliers' weren't at the market as they were told it was cancelled due to snow (which we never got...) so I went to Charlies and bought a 12.5kg bag of Gardman 'supreme seed', and it's awful! 90% corn which, as mentioned in another thread, doesn't get eaten! Luckily I'd gone halves with Mum so only have half a bag of it, which I think may end up being scattered out in the countryside somewhere!

Enjoying looking at how everyone buys their bird foods. I think we need to compile a post just with links in so we have them in one place.
I now buy most of my bird food from the RSPB online shop (there isn't reserve with a shop anywhere near us) and I get a few bits from the garden centre, I do from time to time use CJ WildBird Foods (www.birdfood.co.uk) as their foods are good (and ethical) - and they sell fatballs without the nets!
I have noticed the Gardman foods aren't what they used to be - my birds used to go wild for the fatballs but they're not being touched any more.
The birds are incredibly picky here and tend to go off foods, the used to love the RSPB No Mess Sunflower Mix but its not going as quick now, so I have switched to Feeder Mix Extra as well as buying some Buggy Suet Balls - which were half price when you spend over £30. And I used my 10% code for pre-registering for the Big Garden Birdwatch.
I do tend to take advantage of promotions where suet products are concerned as someone always eats it here, but I don't with seed as these lot are too picky. The woodpigeons and doves turn up everyday and mooch through the seed but they're not overly keen.
I don't think much of Gardman foods these days either. My birds used to go wild for it, but the price has rocket at my local garden centre, and their fat balls are completely ignored in my garden - I put six in a fat ball feeder and not a single beak touched them. They went mouldy and had to be thrown out. I bought two Gardman feeding stations on Monday and when i got them home and attempted to assemble them, I discovered the screws supplied were the wrong size and wouldn't fit in the holes! Ridiculous!
I forgot to add a link to Garden Bird Supplies (where I buy my bird food) in my other post in this thread. My birds gobble up the Ultiva Original mix in double time, and their fat balls are the only ones they will eat. I ordered on Monday a 12.75kg bag of the Ultiva for £29.99 and as it's on offer I will also receive 40 fat balls and a seed feeder, absolutely free. Great stuff! They do some good offers like that.
