I put a couple of boxes of out of date mince pies in one of the bird feeders yesterday, and today the starlings that visit regularly came and had feeding frenzy, they were going mad for them!!!! Great watching them, such great characters!
That's an expensive taste to encourage - LOL!
I have a jar of elderly raisins I found at the back of a cupboard and will put them out at the weekend when I'm counting for B.G.B.W.

God gave us two ears and one mouth for a very good reason!

That's a good idea. I must raid all of my cupboards to see what I have available. I've already earmarked an older loaf of bread in the freezer
Best wishes Chris

Bread on our shed roof brings down the black headed gulls and jackdaws, but maybe this is cheating! I only ever do it in hard weather conditions.
Cheers, Linda.

This xmas I ate all the pies :-)
But during the bad winter the birds were teated to some yummy grub and mince pies were a fav with starlings and blackbirds.
A very old Shropshire Lad.
Nice post Chris! It's not cheating, just a treat, weather could yet turn! And it cheers my young lad up bringing any kind of bird-life to our feeders!
As much as I love birds I think mince pies are too good for them, they should be mine. You can foreward them to me by stuffing them in the CD slot and sending them on via the forum.
(please don't try this at home)

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
LOL Seaman
Over christmas MrT had the same thought Seaman and don't get me started on the christmas cake, neither of which I am in hurry to see again anytime soon, so the birds are welcome...going to have to call our techies now, pastry stuck in dvd drive......
We have had a busy December in the restaurant. Each table is given a plate of mince pies to end their meal but after a three course meal lots of people were too full to indulge.
At the end of the night there was usually quite a few left on tables which of course would have to be thrown away. I asked if they could be saved for me to take home for the birds.
They have been dining out for the past few weeks with plenty more to come, I have even frozen some. Enjoy!! Sue
