Hi All, I took an executive decision & decided to amalgamate the Butterfly & Moth threads which may make it easier to find if it's used more!
These are the old threads from 2019 Beautiful butterflies https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/200195/beautiful-butterflies-2019#pifragment-4285=1
& Mostly Moths https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/198118/mostly-moths-2019/1273216#pifragment-4285=1
To start us off here are a few from the recent traps & wine rope,
this is a lovely Satelite from the 8th january
Just a couple from the other day, without wind at last
Tatty but the first I have seen this year
Loads of Meadow Brown around just now
Nice Red Admiral on the bench outside.
My Toadflax caterpillar has made himself a cocoon of chewed up kitchen paper overnight ... 2 - 3 weeks as a pupa & then emergence as beautiful little moth!
Another new incumbent today which I found floating in my pond, fished it out thinking it was dead but it curled up in my hand, put in on kitchen paper to sop up most of the wet
Looking a little more fluffed up
Am thinking it may be a Ruby Tiger, very pretty moth!
Plenty of "product" required for him Wendy lol
A few from the New Forest today (repeats from my New Forest thread)
Common Blue (or Small...not sure which!)
a ? Skipper
Gatekeeper?
And a Ringlet
They look like aeroplanes lined up on the tarmac, had 6 of these Elephant Hawkmoths last night
