Thanks H, blushing now! Remember this moth well but was some years back & one of my first attempts after the Painted Ladies that got me started & interested in home rearing ... trying to get a decent pic proved quite difficult & wanted a natural daylightt shot to show the lovely colours & markings, well, the moth escaped & flew through open door & I had to track it down ... it flew a couple of times & finally came to rest on some upright decking boards behind bushy Hydrangeas, quite a job to get pics which is why they're a bit side on! Maybe better luck this time round!

Notoriety!!!! Well done Wendy, even better if you had such a job finding it after the escape:-)

It was three years ago, looked back & saw it was making cocoon from kitchen paper around 19th June & moth emerged 7th July! My new one is at 40mm so should pupate soon!

Apologies for the poor picture but it is the best I got trying to following this whizzing beasties about a lavender bush through the utility door.

I am pretty sure its a Hummingbird Hawk Moth.

Post edit..... I have just noticed this shot you can see its proboscis in the flower head.

Yes & they do love Lavender.
