Well here goes, for better or worse, another year of moths. The old thread is here https://community.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/f/all-creatures/196070/mostly-moths-2018/1221500#1221500
To start us off a couple of silly ones that came to greet the first trap of the year on the night of the 1st to 2nd january. It was around 6-7°C all night & frosts ever since so I gave it a go.
A Double-striped Pug

& White Speck
Nothing earth-shattering, but a start!

Managed to uncover the garden furniture for the first time in a few days, and found this monster lurking
As nearly always, no clue what it is, but it did appear to have bright orangey underwing
Yup, Large Yellow Underwing!
Here's one from this morning, Eyed Hawkmoth
I thought I was lucky to find one EHM caterpillar in my fuschia planter today, now a second has appeared on the same plant!
Just going down a stem after eating a couple of leaves (bottom end)
The second one happily munching away
Also, a Gypsy Moth (thanks for the ID Wendy) found on the ground, safe until I release it later
Both EHMs - bottom left and top

You'll have to name him Ernie with those legs! Lol
Hazel C said:looks like they went off Sweetcorn
Not surprising as they are reputed to feed on blossoms of various plants like gorse, holly, heather etc! How on earth did they get onto the sweetcorn?
These LYU's get into everything, did you find any tiny eggs PB? Super Eyed HM, never had one of those H!
