Hi can someone please confirm thhe photo below is a harvest mouse? If it isn't a harvest mouse does anyone know what kind of rodent it is please? I took the photo on Saturday 11th Feb in the reed beds.
Live simply, so others may simply live.
I'm by no means certain but would think a Bank Vole is more likely, especially bearing in mind the habitat.

The rodent has been seen before, here is a blog about it

Excellent! I stand corrected. I didn't realise they were there. must look out for them in future as I've never seen one.
Thankyou dave c and sugar for your help on this one. :-) It certainly was interesting to see it and wasn't expected on such a cold day. Val

Wow - what a privelege to see a shy little Harvest Mouse out doing its thing! I might have to go to Rainham and have a look for these :)

If you're coming to Rainham just to see harvest mice I think you will have to wait for the next big freeze to have any chance!
and in nine years of working here this is the first winter that they have been seen out feeding in daylight. Harvest are so tiny that it is a wonder that they survive at all...
