It's been a real macro lens day today at Minsmere. Between me & Mrs WJ, we ended up with more insects & arachnids than birds for a change! There seemed to be a never ending supply of damsels, each different from the previous.
This one even had lunch
Big Brother Dragon 4 Spot Chaser was hanging round for everyone to photograph
But it was the variety of spiders that was really surprising - the nice weather brought them all out
This one was upside down all the while - weird!
There were spiders with egg sacs
and what you might call "Ex" egg sacs!
A little Crab spider
And the Large Jawed Orb Spider Amy mentions in her blog
Finally, to show there were the odd birds around, this handsome chap was keen to be seen
And a sneak peek of a star in the making. You met her(?) here first - you'll likely meet her again on the big screen in a few days :-)

WOW Joe what a collection your marco lense and you sure brought the goods out today, well the damselflies are amazing so sharp, can't say l'm a lover of spiders but a good job there, and all the great photo's.
l miss my large marco lense just got too heavy, could use it from quite far away not to scare the insect. l've had a lot damselflies on my pond this year, been clicking away. yas
A very nice set of shots, I particularly like the Linnet.
The damsels may all have been different, but they are all various colour forms of Blue-tailed Damselfly - apart from the fourth one, which is a female Azure.

I know, it's amazing how many variations in markings you get with the blue damsels - Northern, Southern, Irish - and that's before you get to the ones that look different but aren't in the "Blue-tailed" list!
Fab pics :) Blue-tailed Damselfly is just one species (the females of which come in several colour forms). Azure, Northern, Southern and Irish are four more species, not closely related to Blue-tailed (different genus).
