Asha & Brodie

The partnership has matured this season, with Asha continuing her good female role (and she loves nest-building) and Brodie being more reliable, both fishing and incubating.

The pair have fought their way thru all kinds of nasty weather - snow, wind and rain - and intruders, including the dreaded KL5 Klive, have been a nuisance but not dangerous...

so far.

EDIT

********

Sadly, the month of May heralded irresistible aggression from BlueKL5 "Klive", who had ruined the end of last season for the 2 juvies.

Within the first 2 days Klive had driven Brodie from the area (tho Brodie did return a couple of times to dive-bomb Klive, to no effect) and destroyed the eggs.  He commenced to woo Asha clumsily, selfishly and inappropriately, as can be seen from the following pages.

IMAGICAT

  • She was last seen on cam July 6th

  • there appeared to be a "wound" under his foot,

I can see some sort of pink swelling but don't know if it's normal ... here's a pic of the underside of an Osprey foot courtesy of Dyfi Osprey Project

  • I see that Holly has already  responded, Cirrus. This is in the time line a few days ago when I posted a resume of her final day, 6 July.

04.43  Asha flew to the nest perch, and dropped to the nest at

    05.16 when Klive arrived.

05.42  Klive takes flight, Asha calls for fish

     07.04  Asha continues to call

07.30  Klive returns without a fish, Asha looks for it!

08.13  Asha flies to totem pole and at some point returned to the nest

08.24  Asha flew from the nest to Odin's perch

09.11  Asha flew to the nest at Klive returned, fishless again

10.18  Klive comes and goes with nesting material.  Asha watched from the nest perch

10.23  Asha flies off to the left out of sight

  • 16.14  Who is this on the dead tree.  Just found by the PTZ

Unringed. markings on chest, probably female. Is it Asha, last seen on 6 July.  At least I am think it's her if only by her mannerisms and not being wary of her surroundings. She showed some petticoat spots and of  course the high freckled front.  But she's not being very co-operative.  She's very carefully cleaning her feathers

How long she had been on the dead tree I don't know.  Cam was fixed on the nest, until it spotted her at 16.14

16.32 having looked carefully around her, she flew off.

16.33 She landed on the nest cam, again with her back to us on PTZ, and stayed for less than a minute,

    and flew off again.

Cam moved out a bit, and stayed put on the nest.

It's Asha, last seen on 6 July.  At least I am pretty certain it's her

I'm pretty certain too Heart eyes  What a coincidence, with CIRRUS just having asked about her.  Where's she beeeen?!

Our dear friend Sandra has been absent thru illness so I've been tryng to cover some LotL, far more time-consuming than it should be.  Clywedog is next, it's almost starving to death thru neglect.

While I was looking to see if Asha showed up on the nest cam when approaching or leaving the cam perch, I noticed the breeze blowing around something like pine cones on the nest, which had to be investigated - it turned out to be a birdie, maybe our Mistle Thrush, looking somewhat dishevelled - good luck if you try to get a clear view of it, it's so camouflaged!

Asha - as you remarked, Sheila - she wasn't co-operative.  I found the clatter whan she landed on the cam perch but had nothing to "attach" it to because the PTZ didn't show her landing, dang!

    .

No-one else seen by close of play.

  • It seems I was wrong about that being Asha.  Both Chat and elsewhere have said it wasn't her.  On reflection, I agree!

    Asha, in May:

Which is definitely not the same as the beautiful female (below) we saw y'day.  See Scylla's still to her vid above, and these snips.

Apologies, I ought to have had more due diligence before getting so excited.

So 6 July still remains as her final sighting.

  • I have to admit, I did not think it was her. I was looking for the 3 dot markings above the eyes, not easy to see but was sure it wasn't her. Aw, a shame if that is her away already

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
