Asha & Brodie

The partnership has matured this season, with Asha continuing her good female role (and she loves nest-building) and Brodie being more reliable, both fishing and incubating.

The pair have fought their way thru all kinds of nasty weather - snow, wind and rain - and intruders, including the dreaded KL5 Klive, have been a nuisance but not dangerous...

so far.

IMAGICAT

  • From cam chat KL5 has been back!

  • 11:39 unringed male on nest giving alarm calls

  • Wednesday 9 May 2024

04.44                  Asha drops to the nest and drops into a half-hearted mantle as Brodie flies in to join her.  She calls and they stand amiably side by side as the sun begins to colour the sky.

04.45                  Brodie flew off below the nest and disappeared

05.11.38              Asha flies to the nest perch

06.29                  She drops to the nest and starts calling loudly, then frenetically.

    06.44                  Asha leaves the nest

    06.55                  Redstart on nest perch

07.27   Canuck  Asha flies to tree branch to right of tower.  She has a FISH.  (We know it is Asha from ptz closeup later on)

07.48  Canuck   KL5 flies to the totem pole, to the left of tower

07.49                  KL5 lands on the nest!!

07.56                  Up to the nest perch.

    08.01                  Down to the nest

  • A quite flit thru, and Brodie has been back, intruder chipping and mantling.  I think I heard sky dancing above, so that is possibly KLive.

    08.35                  KLive flew off

08.43                  Klive returns over the trees to the top right.

    09.03                  KLive flies off

09.04                  Brodie lands, intruder chipping and mantles at intruder unseen but to the right, back of the main cam.  Possibly in the sky?

    09.06                  Brodie flies off.

09.16                  Zoom cam Asha with a fish on possibly Odin's perch.  Where did that come from.

10.27                  Asha flies off with her fish

    11.36                   Brodie landed, intruder chipping

11.42                   Sky dancing???  above the nest. Perhaps KLive needs to go to specsavers!

11.43                   Brodie lifts up in the wind and disappears.

It's turned into a beautiful, breezy day.

  • Thanks Sheila.  I would add the following to your summary:

    6:44 Asha leaves nest

7:27:47 Asha flies to tree branch to right of tower.  She has a FISH.  (We know it is Asha from ptz closeup later on)

7:48 KL5 flies to top of post to left of tower

7:49 KL5 lands on the nest

9:16 closeup of Asha on the branch with her fish (on ptz)

10:27 Asha flies off with her fish (on ptz)

  • Thank you  Canuck.  I have been trying to snip her, but it ain't just working for me.  I found her on Zoom, having been concentrating on the nest cam.  I was beginning to doubt myself in IDing them in different settings!
So presumably the fish was quietly brought in by KLive, off the nest???

  • Asha left the nest at 6:46 and then arrived on that branch at 7:27 with a fish. It is possible she caught her own fish. She had enough time to do it.  But KL5 could also have handed if off to her.  We will never know.
  • I'm off for now.  ENS

  • I haven't caught up, but I did find this from Aviemore Ospreys on the LG Abernethy FB page.  A comment to their post y'day.  He hasn't updated his page today.  Whether it is about Brodie, being a relatively new boy on the block I really don't know.

    Aviemore ospreys

Had a male sitting at the pond this afternoon and early evening, not sure if he's struggling to catch a fish or just watching as they sometimes do, or getting a bit territorial, fed the fish.. dropped the water level and now sit and watch, I'll know     for sure which it is if not tonight by the morning, this morning I had a male get chased out of the tree by another male, then the both flew off in close quarters together, no chasing .. in15 yrs and thousands of mornings I've never seen that before.

  • 16.23 Asha landed, looking very alert.  Where have all three been since 11.43.  Fighting for territory?  Resting in the shade?

16.40 she is still there, alone.
