WEEKLY CHAT (Non-Osprey) Sunday July 2, 2023

HAPPY NEW WEEK/MONTH EVERYONE!

Family here.....it's pizza tonight.

  • Good Morming, All. I'm hoping for a better day, today!

Dry here after a showery night last night.
  • Lindy - I hope you get a better day.
Clare - I will look at your photos soon.

Chester Mystery Plays. WOW!!!! I will be back later to report. No words will do that experience justice.
  • Sorry if I worried anyone, but it was a strange morning yesterday--

I awoke realising right away that I had caught my OHs bad head cold. I was streaming and sneezing constantly. After my OH left for his golf, I decided to enjoy my porridge and then have a nice shower. I stood naked in the bathroom and pressed the switch -- nothing. It was totally dead. I had a wipe down with a sponge for the 3rd time (at least I'd had a shower the night before when it was working).

I had another hot drink then decided that at least I'd get something done that day. I dragged the ironing board into the dining room and plugged in the steam iron. I put the TV there onto the Wimbledon tennis matches. After about 30 minutes I was very tired as I can't stand for long, & my constantly running nose was such a nuisance. Then the tennis was rained off!

I sat down & changed the TV channel. Nothing. After trying various things, realised that all I could get was BBC1, BBC2 & the BBC Children's channel. <sigh> Retuned the TV 3 times. No difference. Began watching the re runs of the tennis. Meanwhile, some rusty sort of marks were emanating from the steam iron...... Gave up on the ironing. My OH returned & fought with the TV. Couldn't sort it out. I told him about the problem with the shower (recently repaired). He looked at it & announced that it had tripped the fuse again.

I was resting by now, but glad to hear that it was only the fuse, although we still dont know why it keeps tripping. Later, he fiddled with the aerial on the TV and something seems to have gone right but we still don't know why!!

In the afternoon I had a rest after all the frustrations, only to be woken up twice by the phone, both times with unwanted calls Gggrrr .....

Today, we have a working  shower, a doubtful TV, and an iron I'll have to throw away. And my nose has been running like a tap for 24 hours. I needed to have a moan!

  • Oh blimey, Lindy, what a day. You've got every right to moan after that lot.

    Glad the porridge worked!

Our herring gulls are red listed birds.  Think about that the next time you hear some flaming idiot calling for a cull of them.

  • Morning all: Up early as granddaughter and Ms. D heading home this morning and taking Pearl back to daughter's house en route to AZ. All went well yesterday for chauffer duties other than the local authorities rudely closing down the road right near we'd parked daughter's car earlier that morning; still, not too inconvenient and a good time was had by all. I'm thinking laundry and vacuum can wait another day.....

Lindybird: Do hope today has been better and that you finally got a shower!
  • Weather here is still mixed – cooler, no thunder and just short rain showers. Less sunshine each day – quite cool and cloudy today but no rain yet. Had the chiropodist this morning. Shortbread is baking in the oven now to share with Grandson next Sunday (they won’t have time for lunch). J is in bed with a bad headache and no lunch.

HARELADY – nice to see a post from you. I remember Harwich from uni days.

RUSTY – congratulations on Sunday’s golf result!

ANNETTE – sorry I muddled the uncles!

LINDA – saw your gathering photo on facebook! Quite a crowd. Glad the knees are improved – but do still take care. Sorry about your bad day yesterday – I am struggling this afternoon as OH ate eggs for lunch and the smell of eggs makes me feel quite ill – I’m sure it’s getting worse every time. I also have the runny nose – assuming hay fever again.

AQ – glad you found the buttons you wanted for the cardigan – is this one for you, of for family?

CLARE – thanks for continuing the photos!

Weather forecast for next week is not ideal for having windows knocked out, and still wondering about the logistics of using toilets etc while the fitters are here!

There's more to come - and Lindy is going to get quite excited about one or two of them!  They'll be towards the end, though.

  • OG - it’s always a worry when workmen are coming. I am sure they will be helpful when it comes to things like using the toilet.
I hope J’s headache is soon better.
Lindy - you really did have quite a day yesterday didn’t you? Just one thing after another. I do hope today has gone more smoothly.
AQ - so glad you had a good family time for the holiday. I would leave the tidying up for later that’s for sure!!!
So, the Mystery Plays - where do I start? We were seated in the nave of the cathedral but on either side of it facing inwards so that all the action took place in a long corridor plus at either end where there was raised staging by the main entrance door or the archway which God and other characters could get very high up on. The sound and lighting were superb as were the very simple but affective costumes and props. There were 200 in the cast plus the orchestra and and large choir. The cast was very inclusive - all ages, one chap who obviously had cerebral palsy, one lady with downs, several using walking sticks and one person in a wheelchair. Some people of colour but there aren’t that many around Chester. Just absolutely amazing. It lasted for 3 hours with a 20 minute interval and I honestly didn’t notice the passage of time. I was so engrossed. It was really slick and one play merged seamlessly into the next. There was humour and of course, some very harrowing and serious moments. By the end of the last judgement I was completely drained. All around people were just sort of stunned and it took a while to start applauding. It was a wonderful, spiritual experience and I felt emotionally drained even though I am not all that religious. It seemed rather mundane walking back to the car park and driving home. I have been reading the programme this afternoon and learning a lot about the history of the plays and what it takes to put a production like that on.
  • LINDY Get well soon

It was the garden party yesterday. Unfortunately it was chucking it down so Erica and family sheltered in the marquee. She only saw the King from a distance.....but the afternoon tea was delicious.
