EJ's Memorial Balgavies Loch Ospreys 2023
Great photo Roberto.
Darren sent me this photo from the back of his camera about an hour ago. He said both chicks had almost gone, so they must be just about ready to go lol....
Darren has now posted some really WOW photos of the Balgavies pair and their two chicks HERE
Note he posted them 5 hours ago which makes it around 2 am, he must have been up through the night processing them all, what dedication, as he tells me he sometimes can take as many as two thousand or more photos during one night at the Loch.
Here is his report for those not on FB
Here is just a taster of some of his fantabulous photos of the juvies. I am sure they must fledge today.

Female brings in a fish
Love the look on the faces of the female and its sibling. Woohoo that looks impressive the sibling says LOL
What a beautiful young Osprey this is. Think a male!
Mrs BF and her two BIG chicks. :-)
Great captures Mary.
Birdies LG DU update.
I have said it before Mike and will say it again LOL.... these have got to be the best photographs of any nest ever, considering the distance the nest is, about the same as Loch of the Lowes. I know we see great photos of Ospreys fishing etc, but they are at trout farms especially set up for photographers to capture from a hide.
To get this quality of photographs from a nest is astounding. I don't think Darren gets the recognition he deserves. :-)
Some more photos from yesterday visit
Chicks in the nest are cute, Mrs.BF frequently joins them.
The sequence of the highest liftoff I saw. While the chick was descending back to the nest, Mrs.BF took off. I believe they touched each other, but the chick didn't lose balance and landed safely.
Mrs.BF frequently leaves her favourite perch for some circles over the loch. Some pictures.
I received information on Blue KR3, seen on the 8th of July during my first visit at Balgavies Loch this year. Has quite a pale breast and I believe is a male, Keith Brockie ringed him on 07/07/2016 not far from Perth and was the only chick of the brood. Blue KR3 was also spotted on 18/05/2018 at Eden Estuary, Fife. Keith kindly sent me a picture taken when in the nest.
Thank You Roberto for a wonderful set of photos, you have seen so much action at Balgavies on your visits this year.
Great you got the information back on KR3 also. Good to hear of a two year old making it back, it always gladdens my heart knowing that they have survived their first migration which is no mean feat in itself.
I second Mary's comment, Roberto, thanks for the report and pictures.
Kind regards, Ann
Fabulous news, both Balgavies chicks have fledged. Yes!!!
That's great
For anyone on Facebook, here is Darren's report of his visit and fantastic photo's taken at Aviemore Ospreys.
