The season so far:
33(11) and Maya both arrived back within hours of each other on the 22nd March. Maya laid three eggs on the 4th, 7th, 10th April and surprised us all laying a fourth egg on the 13th April. The first chick hatched on the 12th May followed by #2 on the 13th, #3 on the 16th and #4 on the 18th. Sadly two of the chicks died, chick #2 on the 15th May and chick #4 died not long after hatching.
So four was not to be, but Maya and 33(11) have two strong, healthy chicks and 33(11) is once again proving himself to be an excellent provider. Throughout this month we will see them transform into beautiful young juvenile ospreys and learn of their sexes and IDs when they are ringed later in the month.

This is not nice to watch, #1 is not letting up on the younger one at all and it looks vicious.
#1 is actually getting a hold of the young chick, shaking and pulling at it and pecking at its neck.
This is one of the worse attacks I have seen .. quite upsetting :-(
and still it goes on ... this is awful
33 arrives with a stick and no let up ....
Chicks fight but this is relentless ... I cannot help but feel concern for the younger chick here.
At last it stops and 33 and Maya stand. 33 flies off - the little chick remains in the middle of the nest - it has still to get up.

At last the little chick moves but is still in submissive pose
Was it a fight over food Karen?
9 Minutes of bullying !!!! ye gods. So glad I wasn't watching but thanks for the news here Karen.
Morning Jane - No, from what I saw, it was an unprovoked attack and from Mike's earlier post I see they were fed around 7am.
I had been watching the younger chick standing/flapping its wings. Then the next I looked, the eldest was starting beating it.
My brother was watching and as it went on and on he actually remarked about how awful it was!
I hope this bullying stops quick for it is something I cannot watch.
The little chick has moved and lifted its head but is lying low just now. The eldest is moving around looking out the nest
As #1 moves around, #3 remains very submissive

The youngest has its head up now ... and they look at each other says me holding my breath!
but they seem OK
