Happy new week

  • Have had a pleasant day - we enjoyed our lunch, had a baguette with Tuna & Sweetcorn which was very filling, then browsed the children's clothes section. Came home with a cute babygro for the expected babe, covered with little penguins, and the sweetest little baby cord dress for Amber, printed with baby animals, plus cute glittery tights in palest pink and a pack of baby t shirts to wear under it. Did enjoy myself LOL!!! Friend bought "posh" toiletries to put in her OH's Christmas stocking, plus some eyewateringly expensive face cream for herself!! I gulped when the assistant told us the total..... She counteracted the expense by buying a lovely blouse in the Jaeger shop at half price. So we returned happily, clutching our purchases, just as the rain started.
  • Fence and trellis is now finished as we had a few hours lull in the rain. Although we have had some torrential rain/ showers during the rest of the day. The new garden gate is being made at a workshop, so we have to wait. We were warned that it could take a month. The freezer and fridge have been restocked, although I would have preferred Linda's type of shopping. We had lunch out. We had  roast lamb with roast potatoes, plus veg. followed by choc & mint ice cream. Naughty but very nice.

  • Sounds as if you had a good time,LINDY!

I have caught up with everyones news, didn't manage to see the eclipse because my PC wouldn't allow it without some kind of upgrade that I don't understand and am too nervous to install without a son or son in law to hand.

After a day and night of rain today has been lovely and OH has been pruning the grape vine. I phoned the roof guy again, left a message but so far no reply. The ceiling leak is just damp, no water dripping. I guess that he has other more urgent jobs to do.

Take care all, I hope that OG Will recover some strength tomorrow and that MARGO continues to improve.

BRENDA It is always a good idea to feed the workers!Morning and lunch time and afternoon snacks are always offered here.

  • Linda – J sounded bad when he came in from work, but has his travel plans sorted for tomorrow, so car repair will be started, and he seems to have improved a little now he is relaxing. Don’t know what the courtesy car will be, and he hates driving anything other than a Fiat Punto! You sound so pleased to be back to shopping and lunch expeditions with your Friend – so pleased she is now well enough. Your purchases sound lovely!

Brenda – you sound pleased with the fence and trellis; a long wait for the gate! Our freezer is too full of vegetables to contemplate anything else, home-made or bought! Traditional roast lunch sounds good!

Heather – glad to see weather improved for a day, and your OH made good use of it to work on the Vine. Sorry you still haven’t been able to get that roof repair done!

Just watched Strictly Results recorded on DMR, but our reception is appalling at present, and I didn’t think Greg should have gone out. J has now claimed space in front of TV for something he recorded, so I am going to search some recipes for fresh ideas, although today’s lasagne went down well!

Ospreys Rule OK, but Goldfinches come a close second!

  • AQ - lovely pics of your grandchildren - the twins are coming on.

Margo - so sorry to learn that you are feeling under the weather and couldn't go to the show that was booked.  Do hope that you start to feel a little better before the chemo starts again. Maybe you will get to see the ballet, I suppose you will have to see how you feel then.  Take care, and my prayers are with you.

Lindybird - those two pics of Criccieth - bring back memories - we holidayed there for a few years in the early 60's.  The second one is of the road going down towards the beach, is'nt it? No doubt you will correct me. Glad to see that you are still donating blood. Unfortunately they won't let me after I had the heart procedure done in 2007 but I did manage to give 50 times over a number of years.

The photo of the kitten is delightful.

  • Thanks for all your news.  Just had a look at your pics, AQ. Quite interesting seeing all the churches etc.

Here are one or two from our Bude holiday.

this was where we stayed for 3 nights in Bude

this is Hartland Quay - was a small thriving port up until the beginning of the 20th century.

  • My flickr pics today are of a few more wildflowers snapped in Kings Park, a 1003-acre park on western edge of Perth’s central business district. A mixture of grassed parkland, botanical gardens & natural bushland on Mount Eliza. 2/3 conserved as native bushland. Panoramic views of the Swan River & Darling Range. Home to over 300 native plant varieties & 80 bird species. Patience – no bird pics until later in trip.

OG – If you like stained glass, on my flickr photostream, click on “Albums”. There look for my 2 sets of stained glass (SA & elsewhere).

View of Perth from War Memorial in Kings Park. The bare earth is construction works for Elizabeth Quay, 25 acres, $2.6 billion project to revitalise city centre. Shops, restaurants, residential & hotel accommodation.

Another view of Perth from Kings Park. The Narrows Bridge, a freeway crossing of Swan River, is 2 road & 1 rail bridge. More & taller city buildings to left of my pic.

  • Good Morning. Damp here, & blustery. Can always tell as the TV aerial for our bedroom bends in the wind, & the picture shudders!!! Thanks to both AQ and Lynette for their equally interesting pictures. Yes, Lynette, that is the road which is crossed by the railway line in the middle of Criccieth, and it goes on down to the shore. We are very fond of the little town as its remained the same for many years.
  • AQ - That looks to be a massive development in Perth, but will be amazing when its finished. Very dramatic pictures of what I'm told is a city well worth visiting. A friend had a relative who emigrated from here to Perth, and found everyone very friendly and a vibrant city.
