hi all
help!!!!!! when walking back from bittern hide yesterday 2 huuuuge birds of prey flew over seemed much bigger than buzzards but couldnt get a close enough look at them before they flew into the trees near the pylon beside the main road. an hour later when in wader scrape hide i looked back to that area with my binocs and saw a big bird on the top of a tree. with my camera on 200x zoom this is the best i could do. any ideas is it a buzzard ? i was hoping for osprey it was very big
It doesn't look like an Osprey to me...I'd go for Buzzard too.
It looks too chunky for an Osprey. Maybe buzzard or RL buzzard. To be honest, the posture (and beak in the top pic) looks more crow-like. But it is pale under with a black tail - if it were in Scotland I'd be tempted to say Hooded Crow. It is quite a flimsy branch it is sitting on.
Bridgeman - my first thought was hooded crow as well. The posture and everything seems more right for a crow than a buzzard. The do move about a bit more in winter and some do go down to England so it isn't impossible either.

As Bridgeman and Kat have suggested, I also think Hooded Crow. The general shape is not raptor - like.
