Hello everyone, I am new to bird watching and will be visiting Old moor soon any tips and suggestions for my first time visit would be a great help many thanks.
Regards
Michael
Hi Micky
Plan for at least half a day and tell the staff and volunteers you are new when you get there
They will be able to point you in the right direction, say what is where and give you a map to take out with you.
You should see a range of birds without any difficulty but take binoculars, telescope and bird book if you have them. If not, they are all available in the visitor centre and you can even hire binoculars and books if need be.
Take your time and ask people if you are not sure what you are looking at.
But most of all, just enjoy the spectacle. The gull colony, small birds in the garden, grebes and ducks all make for a great experience.
Oh, and don't forget the cafe!
Hope that helps as a starter for 10

Hi there.
Old Moor is a fantastic reserve staffed by a really enthusiastic team who will be more than willing to point you in the right direction.
Although the reserve centers around the lake areas with a wide range of waterbirds, there are also lots of other habitat areas that attract a variety of birds - the bird garden and car park feeders are well worth a look and keep your eyes open on the way in - there are birds all over on the approaches to the reception building.
Don't forget to have a nice cup of tea and a snack in the cafe!!!
Have a great visit.

Can't wait to visit and thanks for the great welcome !.
Hi Mick, and welcome. Only just seen this thread. As others have already said, Old Moor is a fantastic place. There are a variety of habitats, and a number of different hides to visit. It won't be difficult to see birds, and everyone there is very friendly. The staff are great, and will give you plenty of help. The most important thing is that you enjoy your visit. So have a great time, (and don't forget the cafe).

Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.
