Decided to visit Old Moor this evening (Fri May 15)after a busy week at week. Visited the Bittern Hide and after a good look around with the binoculars I noticed a solitary Great Crested Grebe sat on the reedbeds. After a few minutes it decided to have a shuffle around and I thought I saw what appeared to be an egg showing. Persistence paid off when I prefocused the scope and the Grebe decided to go for a little swim. Still couldn't tell though until the Grebe came back onto the reedbed and starting moving the reeds around . . . and there it was a large white egg !! It then placed itself on top of it, had a little shuffle around and settled down again. Worth the visit just for that. The sighting of Little Egrets and a Grey Heron flying low over the water being pursued by a black headed gull was a nice bonus.
