Spent 7 wonderful hours at Old Moor on Saturday 20th April and just as we were approaching the bittern hide, glanced left and saw a bittern in flight!
It was a long way off but with the 150 to 500mm lens at full extension I managed to get a few shots
These are certainly not the best photos I've ever taken but pleased with them all the same!
Best of the bunch as I said
Maybe better luck next time!

Cheers doggie. Took a bit of contrast adjustment and cropping in Photoshop to get them anything like "viewable" but it's a first for me - never seen a bittern before!
Hi Ken, congratulations on seeing the Bittern and on these great shots.
I'm a regular visitor to Old Moor (I live 15 mins away as the car flies!) but I've never come even close to seeing a Bittern. Hey ho!
Regards
Ian
Likewise - just down the road from OM, visit regularly but not been lucky enough to see one yet. Well done! My first (and last) sighting of a bittern was over in Doncaster when I was in my teens which is rather longer ago than I care to remember!
Thanks for the kind words folks! It really was all down to luck - and I hope you are all as lucky as I was when you next visit OM!
Well done on the bittern and the photos, Ken. I was lucky enough to see one last year and they don't hang around so really well done on the photos.
