1st saw him Looking..
Then he saw something..
Then he took off... watching...
He got lower..still watching..
Then the Sod dove down into long grass out of sight of my Camera. But.........................................................................................................................
Did he catch it..
.
I saw him fly up to this branch with 'it' and he ate it up.
Last pic is him finishing up and giving me a dirty look before flying off.
Sorry they are a bit fuzzy, but had to enlarge some pics and brighten some up.
Hope they are OK, just wanted to share. :-)
(And I really hope the pictures show up for everyone.!)
A great set of photos Juno.
[wave] Sparrow, don't give up hope as the first I saw that I could categorically say was a kestrel was only a few weeks back - sitting atop a telegraph pole in a country lane.
The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.
The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!
Thanks for ID'ing the sex of the Kestrel for me, I only called it He, because it was quite big and butch looking.
:-)
wow awesome pictures!!!

Hi Juno
Funnily enough with most birds of prey the female is usually bigger than the male and the kestrel is no exception.
Here's a female I photographed just before Christmas.
And here's a male where you can see the grey head and no barring on the tail.
Gorgeous birds aren't they. Hope you get some more shots.
Regards
Tony

Great photos Juno! I bet you were excited to see her. I noticed a Kestrel for the first time on a road I've used for years the other day - will go that way more!
Such a beautiful bird!

Nope. Sparrow, you are not alone.
(Though I did once have the misfortune to move house with Kestrel Removal Services. Apart from ruthlessly murdering several pieces of furniture, there didn't seem to be much resemblance between the Movers and the Birds...)

LOL BB,
So glad I'm not alone. I was beginning to feel very outnumbered.
Sorry about your furniture. Maybe they should rename their firm as Bird Brains.
Cheers, Linda.

No brains would have been closer!
Why do we say "bird brained" anyway? My pigeons are a bit dim, but most of the chaps in my garden seem pretty on the ball.
And while we're at it, who invented the phrase "eats like a bird"? They have obviously never seen the rate at which my feeders go down, mirrored closely by my bank balance...!
Lovely photos TeeJay.
[wave] BB, I think we have all experienced the diminishing funds=bird food expenditure equation this winter. I just tell my bank they are supporting a worthy cause and hang up!!!
