I saw him.. I had my Camera..and he was gorgeous

1st saw him Looking..

Then he saw something..

Then he took off... watching...

He got lower..still watching..

Then the Sod dove down into long grass out of sight of my Camera. But.........................................................................................................................

Did he catch it..

.

I saw him fly up to this branch with 'it' and he ate it up.

Last pic is him finishing up and giving me a dirty look before flying off.

Sorry they are a bit fuzzy, but had to enlarge some pics and brighten some up.

Hope they are OK, just wanted to share.  :-)

(And I really hope the pictures show up for everyone.!)

  • Hi Juno

Well done in catching the Kestrel doing what he does best and that is hunting.

Wow super pictures and I would be chuffed if I got pictures like the ones you produced.

Did you find out what 'it' was that the Kestrel caught

    Regards

  • I'm assuming something Small & Furry.

Thanks for your nice comments.  Saw him after I'd visited a local nature reserve, he was hunting right by my car.!

  • Right place right time excellent set of pictures - Well done.

  • Bother it!  I can see three of the pictures but the other two are hiding behind little red crosses! AGGGHHH!!!

  • Hi Juno, lovely pics, I see a lot of kestrels out this way, almost daily, I've only ever caught sight of them as I've been driving past them hovering above the roadside verges ( must keep my camera in the car ), they are lovely birds, well done.

There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed.

  • Hi Juno

Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. I think kestrels are one of my favourite birds. Well done for catching it on camera - not easy. Can't be 100% certain but  I think HE might in fact be a female. Note the barring on the top of the tail and the brown crown rather than a grey crown which the males have.

  • Thanks Juno for showing your lovely sequence of photographs.

  • Oooooh thanks Juno for sharing your moment. I love the pictures and your captions!

I must still be the only person on this forum never to have seen a kestrel (or a buzzard) outside a falconry centre. I have tried to look up more when I'm out and about, but still never seen any, even on our rare motorway journeys.

    Cheers, Linda.
