I put up a new nest box last November and blue tits have been interested to the extent they carefully removed all the shredded paper (provided with the nest box) I had put in. Hubby has just installed a camera for me. The box floor now has poo in it, presumably from the blue tits who were spring cleaning and very likely roosting there some nights.
My question is, should I leave the poo, or would it be better to clean it out? I am worried about doing too much in case I frighten them away. You never know which beady eyes are watching when you get a ladder out!
Cheers, Linda.

Hi Paul, I'm sorry you haven't had any visitors, but it is probably because it is new. Mine has been there since November. I used the camera from the Aldi offer in the "old" box. The Aldi box has yet to go up.
Hi Sparrow,
Great news!, thats one up on me :-( you lucky thing, I'm still hoping.
I would leave the Poo, they are making it they own, I wouldn't like to fiighten them off now you have them.
good luck, hope they have many babies ( now going green) lol
Hey farmer, farmer, put away the D.D.T now. Give me spots on my apples, but leave me the birds and the bees, please!
Thanks Janet, I'm glad I am being advised to leave it - I wasn't quite sure how to remove it from the top of a ladder as I can't dismantle the box now until next Autumn. I was envisaging a circus balancing act - Linda Tumbleova from Russia.
Sorry you have no occupants as yet Janet - there's still plenty of time and we are having night time temps of minus 3 or 4 at the moment with very strong, cold winds.
Oh poor little mite has just over balanced again!
11-15pm. He is all fluffed up, head under wing, fast asleep. It is at least minus 4 outside, and those boxes aren't centrally heated! I'm switching him off now. He will be gone by the time I get up in the morning. I hope he comes back.
Pity he didn't leave the paper in for a bit longer for extra warmth, it's the same here absolutley freezing, it's been snowing hard here on and off all day and its settled, everywhere is white again, and its just started again now, I wish it would go away.

Hi Sparrow, has your Blue tit been back, any more signs of nesting activity ?
He had gone to join the dawn chorus before I got up. The microphone is very sensitive and my office sounds wonderful. It is picking up all the bird noise from not just my garden but all the surrounding trees and gardens. Right now I can hear blackbird song. I normally can't hear the birds from here in the winter as the window is firmly shut!
Wow! That's excellent Sparrow!! How exciting!! Just the microphone sounds superb!! I would love to have live bird song in my house all day long (although there wouldn't be much point as I'm hardly there lol!)

I think that the camera has turned out to be one of your best purchases, Sparrow. It is already giving you such enjoyment.

Brenda, you are so right! I have been listening to bird song all day, and my little friend has come back again for the night. He's had a wash and a good scratch and is now settling down. He arrived whilst I was out of the room. Typical!
