Diaries of my camera nestbox........sparrows!!

Hi everyone

I have already posted last week that I suspected I had a pair of sparrows using my camera nestbox.

A male has used it for roosting since november, but since friday last week (4th march), I was chuffed to see a female in there. I wasnt sure at first wether they were a nesting pair (because of my lack of experience), or wether the female just wanted to take over Mr sparrows home, because it seemed everytime the male entered the nestbox the female would peck him like mad, poor thing, and he would fly off.

I have come to the conclusion since watching the them over the weekend that they are definatley a nesting pair. They have both been very busy bringing in nesting material, (mrs sparrow still seems to like pecking the Mr though LOL).

Well a lot has happened since friday, and I thought it would be a nice idea to post on here and share my excitement that maybe just maybe I will see baby sparrows quite soon.

They are so very funny to watch, they have collected hay, feathers, tumble dryer fluff(lol), and even a sweet wrapper to build the nest. Here are a few pics, they are not brill quality as im taking pics of my tv, but hope you enjoy.

Im so excited, and they are amazingly funny to watch:)

    Hi everyone,

    Ive been keeping watch on the nestbox again today. Lots of activity with the 2 sparrows, bringing more materials in, too-ing and fro-ing all day. Even though they have been busy, The nestbox dont look much different to yesterday, but I thought id still add some pics today, really hoping we see some eggs soon :)

    Fabulous photos I would never get anything done all day if I had a camera to watch lol.

    Awwwwwww  Bekky. Look at that little Mrs. Sparrow. So proud of her nesting material.  They are wonderful pics.

    hi visionvalue,  LOL, I have a demanding life, but in between looking after the family and caring for my grandmother, im either on here or watching the nestbox LOL. My tv is on all day when im doing housework, with the volume up, so when I hear the birds enter the box I stop what im doing and watch them, Hence not a lot of housework done over the weekend, but Im so stressed out at the moment I dont care, watching the birds takes my mind off things, and is much better than housework too LOL:)

     I know, isnt she just so cute LOL, every visitor who comes to the house im switching the tv on to show them, im so crazy bout the birds now that most of my extended family think ive lost the plot LOL, But I cant help it, ive found a new passion, and so excited bout the nestbox, just hope im not disapointed, your more experienced sparrow, do you think they are very like to have young now as they have worked so hard on the nest??

    Hi Bekky,

    I understand completely how you feel. Last year I was more excited than a child in a toy shop, but I'm no expert. I have never had sparrows nesting in my boxes - and my blue tit roosters nested elsewhere, the little sods. However, I still watched their roosting antics, which were funny in their own way. I also watched the male bring the female to inspect the box, watched her cleaning it out, and then watched her give it up as a bad job! The rooster kept it on as his bachelor pad.

    Your nest looks quite well established to me, and I have every hope for you there will be some eggs. Good luck!

    They are fascinating to watch:)

    Not much gone on today, its been very windy here so I dont know if that upset the sparrows, because they have not been near the box much, but am happy to say the female is sleeping in there now :)
