If you lived in East Scotland would you fleece a young Camellia? (planted 18 months ago, but fleeced all last winter)

According to my wife (RHS GC credit), fleece it. It's only a baby, would you take your 18 month old child out without a coat?
I think I would, and I would probably straw around the base if it is in the ground, keep the straw off the stem. The biggest problem could be weight of snow/ ice causing breakage.
