I know over the Christmas period i've got some 'meaty' tasks to do in my folks garden whilst the trees are dormant. I'll hopefully be able to use some of the wood from the elder and hazels that need reducing for one or two log piles. It'll help burn off some of the Christmas dinner so i'm looking forward to getting my hands dirty! I might even make a few boxes, you can never have enough nesting boxes!
Has anyone got any plans for their gardens this winter? Have a look at the Homes for Wildlife pages to see if you can find any ideas for your garden.

Hi Ian, sounds like some good 'free' materials that you will be acquiring there....well done!
I have lots of plans for the winter months if I can get myself started again following a break from the garden for the last few weeks!!...
Here's my list
That is quite a list, good luck with that!
It's a great time to to get some bare rooted whips for filling gaps in hedges or for adding some height to borders so if thats part of your 'sorting' it's worth shopping around to see if you can get a good deal on a hedging pack.
I've got to...
1. Clear the Patio area of weeds, get rid of any unwanted pots and clean the paving
2. Plant up some pots with pretty flowers to go on the patio
3. Put trellis up around the boundary of the garden and across the front of the patio and get climbers to climb up it
4. Possibly create a dog shelter on the patio
5. turf the bottom of the garden
6. lots of weeding and general tidying up!

My neighbours fence is falling down and I have had to remove 2 boxes that were on it so I need to find somewhere to put those.
Make some netting frames for the pond to stop the as yet unseen heron that is possibly taking my fish!
Finish pruning the cherry tree.
Probably more but will not think of these till the New Year!
It's not always easy to hug a hedgehog.
But that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
Have a look at this idea, Pond net floats it might be more effective/safer for wildlife/better looking than pond netting.
