I thought it wasn't going to be delivered until March! I guess as it was part of a pack it was sent out straight away and I haven't sorted out anything for planting it yet! Typical! Any advice on what to do from you experienced gardeners here? Should I get where it is to be planted sorted out now? It is quite chilly outside still, will it need protection from the nightg frosts?

I looked online about peonies, and found this site that gives some useful info about their care.
It's OK to plant it now if it isn't bare rooted

Hi Kat. Peonies are quite happy in the frost. Mine had started to shoot before the snow arrived and the shoots are still looking green and healthy.

Hi Kat the only problem would be if it is a tree paeony and they do not like late frosts once the new shoots come on the stems so we put a bucket over them if they give frosts when new shoots showing but ordinary ones seem really hardy.
Guess I'll be preparing the ground earlier than I planned! Thanks for the tips all!
Well, that's half of the border where the phoeny is going dug out - it's hard work! The other half the ground was pretty frozen so I left that bit for later in the year lol The bottom half of the garden doesn't get much sunlight in winter so takes forever to defrost! At least the bit of rain we had to dday made digging easy!
