Ive kept a piece of lawn which I dont cut during the year for all the insects. But im sure your meant to cut it once a year? Does anyone know when the best time is to do this? Thanks.
I would recommend leaving some long grass over winter as it will provide cover for invertebrates, your local insectivorous bird population will definitely appreciate this!
If you cut in late March and remove the cuttings you should be on to a good thing. We have got some useful tips on how to manage different types of lawn for wildlife here which is well worth a look.
