Name that sprout

This has started growing by the bird table. It must be a sprouted seed, but what is it?

That reminds me, I'd better do a bit of weeding in this nice weather. Tennis/weeding/tennis/weeding?? Hmmmm........

LOL Kezmo! I saw it at the pictures. My handbag was on my knee and it fell off just at a scary moment. The whole row of us screamed!!!

Pip ... Keep us informed of Triffid's progress.

I used to love being scared by, well, scary films. Do you remember Hammer horror movies?

Yes Sparrow, will keep you informed of Triffid's progress.

  • I could give you a long list of things that it isn't :) but Triffid sounds like a good ID to me!

  • My moneys on sunflower, the seed leaves look like that to me.

Anyhow re- Captain Corelli's Mandolin, I heard the Radio play a fews years ago, it was in 3 parts...I was stunned how brilliant it was, after I heard about the film geting a panning.

    Quite a bitter sweet story.

    So Sunflower.

  • Yo Pip, Ooh Hammer Horrors - Pit and the Pendulum with Vincent Price, the red background was weird for it's day and scary - then the  being buried alive bit had me shivvering for days! LOL   Now it's zombie movies that give me nightmares! I always say I can't watch that, I won't sleep but then feel compelled to do so!

    Update on the sprout

It's now about 2 feet high. I reckon sunflower is correct. Shall I leave it there and see what happens?

    Pipit :)

  • ooooo! I would :o)

Its perfectly positioned and maybe you'll have the pleasure of watching it turn it's face to follow the sun and  even get some seeds for the birds.

It may need some support though. Mine grew to about 6 or 7 feet last year

Me too!  My Mum used to make me stay up late with her to watch all those old horror movies.  Frightened me to death!

I shall watch your triffid's progress with interest.  I just hope it doesn't walk across your garden and knock on your door.  AGHHHHH!!!

There is something new to learn everyday...

  • Pip,

I've no idea about what the little thing could be, it's hard enough trying to ID birds LOL.....
But keep it going just to see what it is....

I agree with AL, the Day of the Triffids book was great, but the film wasn't too bad. And I agree with you about LOTRs - I read the books back in the mid-1970s but I also loved the films. Incidentally, I hear that they are currently filming The Hobbit and that all the actors have been hired for the next 5 years to do the filming. Apparently, there will be 3 films!

Loved the Hammer films but I remember going to see 'Jason and the Argonauts' at the cinema and it scared me to death! That giant! Still can't bring myself to watch it now. Brings me out in a cold sweat just thinking about it! :)

I wonder if you could smoke the plant?

Graham!! To what could you be referring?! I think I'm bonkers enough without any encouragement from Cannabaceae.

If it is a sunflower, when it grows a flower head it will be 'seeds on tap' as it is growing right under the bird table.

However, I'm keeping my eye on it and if it starts growing teeth then I'm off behind the sofa!!

    Cheers
