Herbs?

I have an unused stone container around 3' x 2' and about 8'' deep which I've been thinking of maybe growing some herbs in. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to the best types to grow that would possibly be good for the Bee's and insects as well? Any advice in regards to this would be very much appreciated. Paul
