Hi,
I am looking to plant a Pyracantha hedge at the back of my garden, but I was wondering where the best place to buy them is (best value)?
Also, not sure how many plants I would actually need. The width I would like to cover is about 10m(ish)?
Thanks for help in advance.Mark
In the past,I have used Goldenhillnurseries on a well-known internet auction site. They do bare root hedging, and pot grown plants like Pyracantha. I've been happy with their plants, but perhaps other folk may have more suggestions.
I would always recommend buying small younger plants which tend to be cheaper but also take better because the roots can go off where they want. Bigger ones in big pots are more likely to die on you or get blown around too much. Looking at ours I'd say 1,5m to 2m apart, it sounds a lot but they are massive now. I've bought plants on the internet without any problems & shop around for good prices.
Best wishes

Thanks for the advice everyone.
Is now the right time to plant them outside?
I would say it's still ok as long as you keep them well watered in the summer (if it ever gets here).
I think finding a day where its nice weather enough to get out and plant would be the problem :).
You have to be careful planting in waterlogged ground that you don't compress the soil too much when you fill in around them. If you can mix the soil in a wheelbarrow with dry compost it may help.
