I have a birdbox with camera. Over the last few weeks great tits have made their nest. 8 eggs duly laid. Last week the mother covered the eggs and left. Neither of the birds have returned since. I assume something bad has happened to the birds or the eggs are infertile. My question is... can I remove those eggs in the hope that another pair might use the box?
Sorry to hear that your GT's appear to have abandoned their eggs possibly due to predation of one or both or maybe just spooked by something! You should not interfere with the nest in any way until the breeding season is over ... some advice on an old forum thread here ...
