Hi-
Tried one of these on Lesbos; well impressed.
May trade up my trusty old fz 48- the extension Lens ( but not the tube) will work on the 150

I own a little TZ1 which goes everywhere with me for general use when I don't want to lug the DSLR around.

Galatas, I have a TZ8 10x zoom ( I think they are now up to TZ30) and that is giving me some good results. On Sunday I was at the England v. Barbarians Rugby match (my wife's the rugby fan) and was able to take some reasonable shots from the seat I was in. I think the point I was trying to make earlier about distance is the one you did make, we all try and push the cameras to their limit. Like everything else cameras perform best when in their comfort zone.

Agreed , Bob. I did say I understood what you were saying in your original post.

Hi- taken today- 15 feet or so
Is the Lumix 150 the new one they are advertising on tv at the moment with a 20x optical zoom?
I only ask because I have a Lumix TZ8 at the moment with (it says) a 12x optical zoom (although it zooms up to 16x optical) and then doubles up to 30x when I press another button on it (that's about as technical as it gets for me!!!)
However as bridging cameras go I am quite pleased with the results for my purposes. Here are two photos for comparison:
No zoom:
Full zoom:
If a 20x optical zoom made a significant difference I could be very tempted to swap mine for that one.

the FZ 150 has a 24x optical zoom but as it's new on the market costs around £300
My old FZ 38 has an 18x optical zoom and with the extra screw on lens adaptor gave good results - see my posts on here from Lesbos etc- used ones can be found on ebay in the £130 range.
Christine, TZ8 is a superb little camera and the newest version is TZ30 which is the one I think you are referring to. I have never pressed that button yet, have never liked digital zooms but that photo might make me change my mind. The fz 150 is a near SLR bridge camera and as a result has a bigger sensor (therefore better quality) and the ability to add an optical extension lens.
Edit: If you do change keep the TZ8. The best camera you can have is the one you have with you and the TZ8 will slip into your pocket at any time.
I have to say I can't fault the fz150 as a bridge camera. The reviews speak for themselves, and the x 24 optical zoom can be extended considerably if you use the digital zoom (although you need a tripod for that to be honest) and as Bob said you can buy an optical teleconverter to double the optical zoom. I use the 1.7 teleconverter and can manage this hand held quite easily.
Cheers, Linda.
