First time with a nesting box, they hatched 5 eggs and were feeding the babies constantly. Last night could hear lots of chirping but today silence. Parents coming and just sitting on fence by nest, so had a little peep in and they are dead inside. Why, gutted. Do we remove the box and clean it out or leave it up for a day or so
Regards,
Ian.
Of course I am aware it's nature, but my question was do I empty the box
Ideally nest boxes should only be cleaned out after breeding season which is usually September -February if I remember that correctly
(Pardon the Scottish Accent)
You are correct Linda but I would add that if it's cleaned and replaced early in September then it could provide an overwinter roost for some small bird!
