Hi, I’ve just discovered/disturbed a nest in my solanum as I was pulling out some old netting.. haven’t seen mum in a couple hours (think it was a wren) but there’s a chick fast asleep in the nest which I haven’t touched. Not sure if I’ve scared here off for good but I don’t want the chick to die. How long can it survive before I intervene??
Leave well alone, you can't intervene, it is illegal to interfere with any nest or site, as soon as a nest has been started. Nature can be cruel sometimes but we have to let the birds do their own thing. Hopefully if you keep away, the parents will come back. Any tidying, cutting back, nest box cleaning etc, shoud be done in the back end of the year, October-December.
