I have just noticed that unless I have become a member of a group I can't use the reply facility.
You are probably going to tell me that it has always been like that. I first noticed this when I tried to reply to an entry by Sooty on the Farming Forum and thought that might be a specialist area. I have now seen that I couldn't post something to a lot of other forums if I wanted to.
This doesn't seem to affect the usual chat / wildlife forums. Am I doing something wrong.

I think it's always been like that
I've learned that I still have a lot to learn...

True, except that I was able to reply to the Arne posting of juvenile Dartford warblers, but I'm not a member......!?! Or isn't that the same thing?

It's no problem to join a group. You can join, post a reply and leave again if you like
Best wishes Chris

Most of the groups require you to join before you can post or reply, but one or two don't. Its random and there doesn't seem to be any logic.
Cheers, Linda.

Hi there, this is another confusion caused by the upgrade I'm afraid.Prior to the upgrade the only things that were groups were the reserve sections (because it was useful for each reserve to have its own blog, forum and gallery). It was also nice to have people show their appreciation for the reserves they liked by joining the group - the closest thing to facebook "liking" that the community product offered at the time. The upgrade changed the way that the community was organised and everything had to be in a group. All the top level categories (wildlife, places to visit, etc) are groups, and they in turn can contain blogs forums, agalleries and other groups. We thought the most sensible thing to do was leave the reserve groups as they were (ie, you had to join to comment), so as not to confuse existing users, and tried to ensure that anything that was outside that group was open to all registered users. If there are some specific exceptions, then let us know and we'll go and correct the permissions.
There we go doggie, that's sorted it!
Thank you all. Obviously I have never wanted to post anything on these groups before
