How to close account

I wish to close my account and remove all my comments. I cannot seem to find a way of closing the account. Any assistance is appreciated.
  • Mrs T will doubtless be able to help with closing an account, but why delete all previous comments?

We've seen before where this was done for various reasons and it ended up wrecking the threads the comments were in.  For the sake of those remaining and anyone else who reads (but not necessarily contribute to) them, I'd rather comments aren't deleted

PS ETA, you can of course delete your own comments personally

  • I agree with WJ.

Please can the following thread be reinstated.

    community.rspb.org.uk/.../1377984

Why is a moderator butchering threads and contributors? If someone wants their account deleted, why are all their posts being deleted as well as their account? They never were previously. Other people contributed to those deleted threads....people who didn't ask for their input to be deleted.

Also, why are contributors being deleted without being interacted with?

Please can the current moderator ask their manager to respond to the above?

  • I have emailed the RSPB’s CEO Beccy Speight direct at her RSPB email address. if she can look into this situation. As did receive a reply from the former CEO Mike Clark a few years before his retirement and had a reply from Martin Harpee the conservation director worked at the RSPB I aslso emailed him direct at his email address over the years as well.

    Regards,

    Ian.

You probably need to post his a new thread if you want to have any chance of a moderator reading it - perhaps title it something like For the Attention of a Moderator.I think it highly unlikely that a Moderator will see any comments given that they already have to be tipped off by members about Spam etc.

  • This is actually a 7 year old thread - and the person's comment that resurrected it has been deleted! Maybe by themselves, maybe because they found out how to delete their account and all comments. Who knows?
Under the GDPR regulations there's a right to be forgotten (you can demand an organisation deletes all personal data they hold on you). I'm wondering if posts disappearing are somehow tied up with that and a deleted account is taking out not just an individual's comments but whole threads? If so, I personally don't think that's a correct application of the regulation in any way shape or form, and an error in software operation to boot, but, again, who knows? :-)

  • I am mindful of the fact almost no one comes on here to find out what happened to Robbo. However, I'll respond to the points in the two posts that have been raised, incl this post.
    1) The editing and updating of this thread was calculated and deliberate. Two reasons
    i) It shows someone making a valid point in 2015 that was at the time and in the last week, ignored.
ii) The most likely person to have complained about Robbo had posted a request to have their account deleted. I wanted to link that as Robbo had offered the solution for that person to delete all their posts....rather than simply tell them they edited an old post.
(I am unaware of any way of someone being able to delete their own account....or anyone else's for that matter.....apart from with moderator access.....)

edit. I should also have said that adding it to an existing thread would mean more people could see it potentially. Creating a new thread would take effort that is going nowhere anyway. No one will admit they were wrong. There will be no manager responding as a moderator would not report themselves.
