Am I right in thinking that our personal e-mail address is not visible unless we want it to be? I have received an unsolicited private e-mail from someone who claims to have read my profile on the RSPB forum and now wants to be my 'friend'. When I checked my profile I can't see anything there that shows my 'home' addy. Needless to say I am ignoring it.

Well, not sure! Just gone through all the pages on your profile and not found an e-mail address anywhere!

If you have e-mail notification turned on then you will get friends request to your e-mail address. No big deal. If you do not want e-mail notification then turn it off.
As for friends requests. They have to be initiiated by one or other of the parties. No big deal either.

Was it in the form of a friend reqest Caroline?
I know there was an issue with emails, some duplicating some not arriving!
If you send a private messege to another forum member friend or not it goes to your email, but it wasn't sent via email. I shall try demonstrating via a private messege to you now.....
Please let us know if it arrives in a similar fashion.
EDIT : I don't know how to do it! LOL but I know someone got in touch with me like it before.

They have to be in your 'friends' list, then there is the option on the 'friends' tab in your profile to 'send message'!
Hi all,
I will investigate this immediately and update you as soon as I have further information. Please be assured your privacy is my highest priority.
I will update you as soon as I have further information.
Kindest regards,
Cliff
Hi MarJus,
Higgy sent me a messege when I first joined and he wasn't in my friends list!
Hi Caroline
All requests for friendship generate an email. The person asking for friendship does not know your email address because the request is routed through the forum. You can accept or reject the request by clicking on the appropriate link in the email. You don't have to give a reason for rejecting the request if you don't feel comfortable with it.
If you go to your Profile page and click on the Friends tab you will see Requests for review. You can accept or reject the request from there too. It will stay there until you do something about it.

Well in that case, I don't know how to either! Lol!
I had one this morning as well. It was not through the community forum i.e. so & so has sent you a message.
I had it in my junk box, but did not respond to this person, as I checked out through the search box and no one of that name was entered.
Can you mods look into this please ,like Caroline it annoyed me how they know our email address?

Dear all,
I wanted to update you - we are continuing to investigate what Germain and Jennilien have reported above. We have some more tests to run to see if we can isolate anywhere on the site that email addresses could be visible. This takes time, but is almost complete.
Again, I will update you fully when our tests are complete.
