Lines of text merging together and photos disappearing

I know we have had a huge problem recently with photos being difficult to load, but I am still experiencing the same problems from time to time. It is erratic, so all I can do is say it has happened today (although it has also happened in the past).

Either, the green progress bar doesn't appear at all in the photo name box.

Or, it does, but then the photo isn't there when you go to preview.

Or, some photos are there and some photos are not.

Lines of text just disappear or merge together (if there is a typographer amongst the mods, it is like the leading is too tight and the lines overlap).

Copying text or cutting text does not always put it on the pasteboard (or if it does, it is not always possible to paste it again).

There seems to be a link which the photo has with the file, which is occasionally getting lost. Sometimes I am able to re-establish that link, but sometimes it is not successful. Often a second insertion of the same photograph will do the trick, but not always.

Preview can show some photos and some text, but miss out some of both in an erratic way.

This only happens in RTF because it only happens when I try to upload photos.

I use an Apple Mac OS 10.5.8 and run Safari as a browser 5.0.5.

I am careful with the way I use the software and wait until the photo upload box is ready. I also wait for the progress bar to load fully (if I get that far) and wait for the green text 'Uploaded' to appear before I select Insert.

I put on a huge number of photos and text very successfully this morning in a new thread. However on a different thread it took nearly 3 hours to get a handful of photos loaded and text in the right place. I had to give up on one line of text which just wouldn't appear between two photographs.

bye for now

  • Thank you Alan, the threads go so fast, I wonder how anyone has a chance to see them all! But I thought by putting this in technical problems, it would automatically be read by the mods! Is that wishful thinking! lol

    bye for now

  • Hi Sarah Macspalsh and doggie,

Thanks for raising this. I'm still keeping an eye on the technical threads, so fingers crossed picking up on them all - and doing my best to update them when we have new information.

There's two issues here, the photo upload issue is a known problem and we're still in active discussion on with the support team from the software manufacturer. Several threads have started on this and I'm hoping to have a chance to merge them together into one so it's easier to see the latest situation.

The main problem slowing this down has been the manufacturer's support team not being able to successfully replicate the problem to pin down a cause. However, there's definitely people working on it. For the latest information on that, please refer to this thread:

    http://www.rspb.org.uk/community/about/f/909/t/49752.aspx

The text issue you've described is curious and not one I've seen reported before. The only immediate suggestion I would make is to see if your browser "zoom" function is set to something other than 100%. There's a chance this may cause the problem you've described. I'm discussing with another one of our technical guys though, so if we come up with other suggestions, I'll update this thread.

    Hope that helps.

    Kind regards,

    Cliff

  • Hi Cliff, thank you for that. I really don't think it is anything to do with the zoom control on my browser. There are two posts where you can see an example. On this first one, I tried to fool the software by hitting the return key before I got to the end of a line, but just missed it by a word! www.rspb.org.uk/.../346043.aspx

Look at the text at the bottom of my post, one word 'load' managed to get onto the next line despite my efforts and is too tight with the line above. Also on this post, I found it absolutely impossible to get text above the second photo and had to resort to putting it underneath. It looked OK on 'Compose', but completely disappeared on 'Preview'.

The second example I can show you is on this link www.rspb.org.uk/.../49881.aspx

About half way down the page, you will see on my post (4th paragraph) exactly the same thing. I did flag it up to the techies at the time, but there were so many technical issues that I suspect it got lost!

I know you are really busy and trying to solve all sorts of issues, but sometimes it is one little detail which can illustrate a more serous problem. Please don't forget that cut/copy/paste wasn't working with the text either occasionally. I wonder if the photos are linked to the text and when the photo doesn't load, neither does the text. Just a thought.

    bye for now
