Graham, in addition to yesterday's post (no improvement today) I thought you may wish to know that when I sign out of the forum, even though I have checked the box to remember my sign in details, I still have to type them in each time. Not a huge inconvenience, but may be useful information for sorting out the techie problems.

This is by design. If you actively sign out (using the sign out link) this effectively means "forget me" which contradicts (and overrides) the remember me checkbox.
You don't really need to click Sign out unless you're on a shared computer or you need to sign in as a different user.

Brilliant, thanks Graham - that does help. I won't keep signing out, just close the window. Sorry to have bothered you. I suppose I am on the look out for anything which could explain why I am having such a problem using the forum. I am sure you are all still working on it and equally fed up with the problem. Carolyn

If your details were remembered by the site, you would not see them at all. You would be signed in automatically and bypass the sign in screen altogether.
I suspect what you're referring to is the fact that your details are prepopulated in the e-mail and password box. This is a feature of your web browser called Autofill and does not pay any attention to the remember me setting.
