We are aware that the RSPB website, including the Community, has been intermittently very slow for some users since 2 July. Please bear with us. We sincerely apologise for the frustration this is causing.
We are investigating the problem as a matter of urgency but have not yet discovered the root cause of the problem.
This thread will be updated with information as and when we have it. Thanks for your patience.

I've been having terrible problems with slowness and inability to upload pictures. If it's useful I'm running on an Intel based Mac with the latest version of Snow leopard. I've tried with the latest version of Safari and Firefox and both still give me the same problems. I've even reset all cookies cleared history and removed all temp files without any improvement in system performance on the Forum.

I'm running Windows7 and having problems varying from "a bit slow" to "catatonic" and back again. I also wondered if geography was playing a part, as when others have had problems I have not and vice versa :-?
Thanks for the announcement.

Birding is for everyone no matter how good or bad we are at it,enjoy it while you can
Yes, red bar great alert. Used to be extremely slow with uploading etc. but that all seemed to be fixed a couple of months ago but the live webcam frustrating as freezes about every 2 mins and have to constantly keep clicking again. Thanks for the update.
Hi,
I'm glad people find the red notice useful. However, since this is the thread about the slowness of the site and not a thread about red banners, I'm afraid I am going to have to delete all of the replies that are solely about that.
Please bear in mind that Technical problems is not a chat forum - it is there so that people can report new problems and find out the latest status on existing problems. Unfortunately, everyone chiming in causes two big problems:
1. it requires us to read all of these replies and stops us spending time solving the problem
2. it makes it difficult for other people to work out what is going on, which makes things worse if they are already frustrated because of a technical problem
I hope this makes sense and you understand where we are coming from.
All the best,
Not possible to upload photos, but I can get them on galleries by using the linking method, linking to my images on Flickr. However, when I do this, when I click on an image (already opened from the thumbnails) to see a larger image, I'm then prompted to download the image. This doesn't happen to images put on the gallery via the upload method when it was working. Also, the tag selector very rarely loads correctly. The pop-up window opens and then just hangs there blank.
I'm using the Google Chrome browser on a Win XP machine, and I've been using the Blacktoft Sands gallery.
Hope this helps.

If you can't ID a bird, don't worry - just enjoy it!
I'm on Windows 7, IE 9 in Southern California. Rich Test Formatting has been slow to very slow; it's faster today but have had odd formatting issues too.
Hi Annette,
Would you mind telling me what the general speed of pages is like for you, aside from the rich text formatting page? When you're browsing the site do pages take 5 seconds, 25 seconds, minutes? This would be really useful.
Many thanks,
Graham I appreciate you trying to solve these problems!
Loading regular posts takes me about a minute.
If I need to use Rich Formating to include a quote it can take more than 5 minutes. The Rich Formating seems to be where the problem lies. Also it takes a few minutes to refresh a page.
Last night ( I am in the USA) I tried to load a picture directly from my desktop . After 40 minutes I gave up trying.
Until July 2 nd I had no problem loading pictures
Thanks
