Disappearing messages

Everytime I read a message and then come out of it it disappears and I cannot refer back to it. Does anyone else have this problem and is it part of the forum setup ?

  • Hi Su

There are problems with the servers on this site I think. Very slow response most of the time and for two days I have been trying to post a message but it will not work. I have lodged a complaint with the tech guys but no response yet.

If you don't see this you will know I had no luck... ha

    Hi Sue,

Are you clicking on to a thread in "posts you have not read"? I have found that the thread will disappear after it has been read and it can be quite difficult to track it back unless you know which forum it was posted in originally.

    Just a thought.

The server hardware was upgraded a short while ago, we are waiting on a software upgrade....

there is no date for this yet.

When the forums are busy (read everyday since the garden birdwatch), the posts whizz by..

If you have repied though you can always find the post by going to your profile page, there are links there to your last activity.

  • Thanks for all your replies. I am using Firefox to access RSPB as I was having problems with Internet Explorer to answer any messages.

Jay you made me laugh with your comments.  I was about the same age when I first turned a computer on so I know what you mean lol. Sweat pouring down your face and hoping nothing went wrong and now its like I've been using them all my life. I can even put a hard drive in lol and sort my own problems out without having to ask but its taken me 7 years lol.

Claire I was clicking on posts not read and have just tried clicking on the forums and going back and it stays put so thanks.

Thanks once again to everyone thats what I like about this forum everyone helps each other:)

    Hello Visionvalue.

I know what you mean by your messages disappearing, but actually what is happening I think is not a fault, it's due to the fact that the forum has grown massively recently, with lots of new members, the main page only shows the first recently added or replied to threads up to a max of 10. So because it's very busy whilst you are typing away and you post your comment, it is possible that a number of people have all been commenting on existing threads or starting new ones at the same time! hence the reason you loose your message, because its no longer in the top 10 of recently amended or added threads!!!! Phew yo get my drift ? :)

As an experienced forum member, I find my self doing as others suggested, going to my home page.

    It's a busy busy place now :)

    Have fun

  • Hi Sue

If you mean a 'post' it means that it has just fallen off the bottom of the main page. You can try clicking on 'Posts you have not read', or going to the specific forum where that thread was posted to read the whole thread again.

The thread is definitely still there, in that particular forum, but is just no longer on the main 'new threads' page.

    Best wishes Chris

  • I use Explorer 8 and have no problems reading posts on here.

Do have problems with Profiles, Gallery, Blogs, Groups and logging on sometimes but I am told its not my or the computers fault.

  • The "posts you have not read" link is a waste of time if you have read it!!! It only shows those you haven't read.

I agree it is hard work at the moment as there are only the ten most recent ones on the first page, and they are getting buried very quickly - sometimes a thread disappears to page 2 within 5 minutes. Usually the only way to retrieve it is through the personal profile pages - and these are very slow to load.

    Cheers, Linda.

Agree, Sparrow, that the "shortcut" is a waste of space
