A very handy Shortcut - Never Miss a Post

On the Community Forums page, on the right hand side, there is a list of shortcuts.  One of these is called 'Posts You Have Not Read'.  You can set this to show all topics, or just the ones you are most interested in.  You can also set it  (for the current session only) to give you new posts over a certain time period, such as two months, 1 day, etc, or since you last visit.  When you first click on this, a list of all posts appears, because you haven't read any of them using this filter before.  I suggest, if you don't want to miss anything on this lovely website, that you click on each topic and work through them to make sure you have read them all, then use you 'back' arrow to go back to the shortcut .  The topic you have just read will have dissappeared from the list.  If you work through the list now, while it is so small, you will be ahead of the game.  Now, next time you visit the website, click on this shortcut and you will see just a list of topics which have had posts added since you last read that topic.  If you click on the topic, then press <end> on your keyboard, you will go to the last entry on that page.  When the topic gets longer, there will be multiple pages, and you can navigate these in the usual way.  You never need miss a post again!!  ;-)

  • Brilliant - thank you - that should keep my stress levels down.

  • Thanks Wattle15...... found it and it will certainly save time.

    "Birds of a Feather".... ~( :o )

  • Wattle: Thanks! I can tell you're not just a pretty face!  :-)

  • VERY many thanks Wattle 15 for such EXCELLENT advice. I've taken it!

  • Many thanks Wattle15. Have just followed your advice and it works a treat.

  • STAFF, I think we have a small problem with this shortcut filter.  At the moment, it only applies to posts made in the Community area.  Since you are encouraging us to use our specific Groups areas, could we possibly have this filter extended to cover posts in those groups?  Potentially, this is a wonderful shortcut, but at the moment it's cutting us out instead!

    Smiles, Jan.

  • Thanks for the useful advice, Wattle.  Gradually finding my way around this new place, its like going to a new shopping centre when you get confused and find yourself back at the beginning, sometimes. Then next time you visit you find shops and etc. that you didn't know were there. Expect we'll all become used to it.

  • Hi Wattle15

As a new member, your post about "A very handy shortcut" was one of the first I read. I duly followed your instructions and have now read through nearly all the back postings. Along the way I have found some wonderful photography, been able to answer a couple of questions and read some extremely interesting and helpful topics. So a big THANK YOU to you for taking the trouble to post the advice.

The necessity of bird-watching is a really good reason for avoiding all forms of housework.

The dust will still be there tomorrow - the birds may not be!

  • I'm glad my advice has been so useful!  I know I like to read everything, without wasting time re-reading stuff for the upteenth time, so I presumed others would be in the same boat.  A bright, shiny new website was an ideal opportunity to start off properly.  It's just a shame that the filter only works in the Community area though.  For the Group blogs, its just a matter of working down the list of newest postings from the top until what you read seems familiar!  ;-)

    Smiles, Jan.

  • If you hold down the Ctrl key and then click on End   it will take you to the last post.   Home takes you back to the first post.   I find this easier than scrolling down each time.

Page Up and Page Down save a bit of time as well.

Use whatever talent you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sing the best.
