Google Earth

Can somebody tell me why I am not getting the Osprey routes on Google Earth anymore.

I have reinstalled Google Earth and re added the data but still nothing.  Been bugging me for a while now.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

You're right. The Google Earth file should be updating now.

    All the best,

    Graham

  • Thanks Graham.

    It works great now!

  • Hi Am I being thick as usual or is the points for Rothes the only one being updated (latest 27th Febuary)

I have Mallachie latest at 28th Noevember 2009 and Nethy at 11 March 2009

  • Hi Janner. Rothes is the only osprey still sending readings. Nethy and Mallachie are presumed to be dead.

  • Hi Janner

The Loch Garten blog tells the tracked ospreys' stories in detail, mixed in with news from the reserve - for Nethy and Deshar start in August 2008 and for Rothes and Mallachie in August 2009.

Each of them also has a "mini-biography" linked on the RHS of the blog - Rothes, Mallachie, Nethy, Deshar.

You can also find much more information in the Loch Garten Forum . This report from the Rutland Water Osprey team's recent trip to West Africa, shows how hard life is for young ospreys, even if they make it out to Africa, and why many don't survive to adulthood.

Keep watching, because Rothes will be two years old this spring - the age at which many ospreys return to Northern Europe for the first time. We are checking her movements every week, though at the moment she appears happy with life in the Bijagos Archipelago off Guinea-Bissau.

I know this is a digression from the original Technical Query about Google Earth Tracking, but hopefully it will help Janner and anyone else looking for the information which explains what they are seeing. If you have any other queries/comments about interpreting the osprey tracking, please post them in the latest LG blog comments or here in the Forum. NB You will need to join the Loch Garten Ospreys Group to post in the forum - just click on the Join button.

    Cheers, Sue

  • Thank you Brenda H and Sue C for your very helpful replies I have my head around it now

  • Hello tech team,

Any chance of more regular up-dates.

    Mull White-tailed Eagles last updates:

Breaga 22nd May (has something happened to her?)

    Mara 21st June

    Midge 23rd June

    Shelly 23rd June

Now Mallachie the Osprey is presumably back in the UK. It would have been absolutely fantastic to have at least recent updates over the last few days as she flies past us.

Her last update is 2nd of July.

  • Sorry ignore the above on Ospreys. There are two errors. 1. I meant Rothes not Mallachie 2. she is updated to the 11th not the 2nd (i read GE wrongly). The White-tailed Eagle data is according to my GE correct.

And just because i am making a suggestion doesn't mean I am not grateful. I am.

Thanks tech team for all your work.

  • I see Dave Sexton has posted a note about it.

    Her transmitter has failed.

  • Hello tech team.

I noticed that the RSPB webpage

    www.rspb.org.uk/.../mulleagles

has got the years for 'Oran and Venus' and 'Breagha and Mara' transposed.

    It should be

    2009 Oran Venus

    2008 Breagha Mara

Also I notice on GoogleEarth i only have the the points for Breagha from 16 May 2009 and Mara from 1st February 2009. It would be great to have all of their points even if it means splitting it into years.

Thanks for all your fantastic work!
