Google Earth

Can somebody tell me why I am not getting the Osprey routes on Google Earth anymore.

I have reinstalled Google Earth and re added the data but still nothing.  Been bugging me for a while now.

Thanks in advance.

  • Sorry to be a complete divvy!! This fascinates me BUT I haven't got a clue how to do this!! I have google Earth so what do I do next.

  • Not such a divvy, I think I'm ok now!

What happened to the Loch Garten Osprey with the red line?

  • that was Deshar .  sadly he was, they think, blown off course and could not find land. Once he missed the Azores there was really no chance for him.  He must have been exhausted.

please could someone help me.  I have downloaded google earth and the link to watch sadly only Rothes now. The last date I have showing is 30th January. I have tried refreshing it and have a 12 hour update as told. Has something happened or is it something I am doing wrong.  thanks is advance for any advice.

Hi Kaz, Nothing wrong, just that the osprey tracking does not work "in real time" for several reasons.

Firstly, in the winter months the transmitter only sends data to the satellite once a week. Secondly once the data has been downloaded, the staff at Loch Garten have to input it to a separate file for it to display on Google Earth. Also, because Rothes has been living on the same small tropical island for over 12 months now, they have recently only input a couple of positions per week - but they know she's moving around the island more than that. You have to look at the Google Earth display in conjunction with the Loch Garten blog, which is also updated weekly at present.

    Hope that helps!

  • thanks very much Sue. I understand now. It was just a bit confusing when I looked back at the history.  I am just so looking forward to them coming back in the spring. Hoping to see if Rothes is heading north

  • Hello Graham,

I don't know if it will cause any future problems or of it is just an incorect label but the present date for Breagha is 1 Dec 2011. I presume it was just that someone typed in 12 instead of 02.

Doesn't matter to me just thought it might be useful to know,

    cheers and thanks again,

  • Hi prasad,

I've just checked the data and the date is supposed to be 1 Dec 2010. We'll get that sorted out.

    All the best,

    Graham

  • Hello Graham,

Is there something that can be done about the very low tracking points of the Mull White-tailed Eagles?

It is very hard to see proper movement when points are so far apart. Midge had nearly 50 days between the last 2 points.

Midge has only 1 since 30 Nov and that was on 18 Jan

Shelly has 3 points so far this year but none since 18 Jan

Breagha has 3 this year and none since 1 Feb

Mara has 5 this year but none since 18 Jan

    Thanks,

    Prasad

  • Hi,

I have chased the people who provide the updates. Hopefully the points will catch up very soon.

    All the best,

    Graham

  • P.S.

I went to the webpages that show the tracking on a map and for Shelly and Midge it has 6 points just between 17-22 Feb so this is definitely a GoogleEarth question. Somehow the information isn't being shared to the GoogleEarth link.

Breagha and Mara are also OK on the webpages with 7 points this year the most recent being 22 Feb.
