New / Old Problem

Hi-

I can't access the forums from my favourites OR direct from Google- I can get to my page and then have to reply to something I've already written or find a forum I have previously posted to in my list of old posts.

It's the same on all 3 computers.

    Here to Seymour {puzzled}

Either you can get into the RSPB Forum or not - it is luck when you try - maybe one time out of three go's to get in to post

Still spooks in the wood pile here as well.

Can't open from my shortcut on the desktop just get the blank page when I try, so have to go through google.

Gave up last night!! Even the forum page this am is still wonky, no forums, blog etc buttons, on home page, or at the top of post pages.

    All looking a bit odd.

  • Hi all,

Unfortunately the community software on one of our two servers is just returning a blank page - there is clearly a problem with it although we're not 100% sure what's going on just yet. The upshot of this is that 50% of the time you will be unable to access the community site.

Our IT team are investigating the problem right now. I will post again when I know more.

    All the best,

    Graham

  • Thanks for letting us know Graham. I hope it can be rectified soon.

  • Thank you Graham. Any news on when the new software is due? I do not suppose that there is any chance of a backup server?

  • Hi Tiger,

The expected date for the switch to the new servers is Tuesday 7 December.

    All the best,

    Graham

Any word on hardware replacement? We've heard tell of new servers being installed on several occasions but nothing seems to happen.  The RSPB Community is currently the most glitch laden site of its kind I have ever encountered and this doesn't reflect well on the society. On several occasions I have almost decided to abandon  the fora  on the basis that life's far too short to wait several minutes for a page request to respond, or to have carefully thought out comments "timed out" before being accepted and posted.

  • Hi John B,

We completely agree that the performance and reliability of the Community site are unacceptable and have been for a while now. Life is absolutely too short to wait minutes for a web page. We made a big mistake expecting the Community software to perform well on our existing hardware.

However, the tales of new servers are true - and, not only that, we are moving to a new hosting company with far better levels of support. We are very excited about the move and we are counting the days until 7 December when the switchover takes place.

    All the best,

    Graham
