Web Site Really Slow

Hi All

Since I have been apart of this online community loading of pages is painfully slow & I just uploaded a picture again it was slow and suddenly ended so I didn't know if the image was saved or floating around in cyberspace!

'And there's more' I keep receiving double emails?

HELP! Any ideas??

Ps. No problem using other websites.

  • Hi PW

It's not you, it's a problem we have all been living with for some time. Apparently there are new servers on the way which are currently being tested but we don't yet know when they will be commissioned. We live in hope.

In the meantime try to keep your photo uploads to a modest size. I tend to reduce my originals to somewhere between 250 - 400 Mb. They get scaled down anyway to fit on the page. Most of us have also given up trying to put photos on the galleries. They often won't upload at all or else disappear after posting.

No one knows why we get duplicate emails. Many of us untick the box at the foot of the posting page to stop getting  these emails. You can also do this on your "My Page" but I tend to leave the box to receive Community messages ticked so that you know if someone has sent a message or comment to your page.

    Hope this helps

    Regards TJ

  • Hi

Welcome - hope you enjoy forum.   Yes, I get double emails as well!  Were you trying to upload a picture onto a gallery rather than in the forum?    that tends to be dreadfully slow - I have more or less stopped looking at galleries for that reason - never mind loading stuff onto them - however, I understand from other threads on this forum that the RSPB is in the process of/going to be overhauling website, so hopefully it will improve.   A lot of people have been posting photos in threads instead of in galleries for that reason.

  • Thanks for the info TJ

I've Found that if I click to enter community & then go to view some where else on the internet using a new window or tab at-least I'm doing something while RSPB community is loading!

  • In my experience this site only ever runs painfully slowly on days that have a "y" in them.

Every day a little more irate about bird of prey persecution, and I have a cat - Got a problem with that?

    Hi-

I personally find that opening 'my page' is probably the slowest- it can take up to a minute to load.

TJ do you really mean 250-400MB rather than Kb? Mine aren't anywhere near as big as 250MB when I take them.

I reduce photos that are between 3 and 5 MB to something like 300 Kb for uploading on here

    Best wishes Chris

    Hi patch watcher

Firstly you need to deselect 'Email me replies to this post' every time you post. Then you need to go to your My Page, Edit Profile and change the preferences of receiving emails.

I personally select No for community emails, but Yes for notifications by email. I don't really think that this is perfect though, as I don't receive emails to advise me that someone has left me a message on My Page, and as it takes so long to load, I don't often go and look at it.

    Best wishes Chris

Oops! Yes, I got my kilobytes mixed up with my megabytes. I did mean between 250 - 400 Kb. Thanks for pointing out my error.
