Hi, can anyone tell me how to reduce the size of my images so that i can upload them onto the gallery.
All my images are over 5mg so i need to reduce them down to 4mg or under, i am shooting in JPEG-fine.
I have got Lightroom and SC4 but not sure how to use either as yet.
Please help as i have loads of images to upload including a very hungry Heron.
cheers, Macro
Birds are not shy, they just like to make photographers look dumb.
I use IrfanView (www.irfanview.com) which is very easy to use.
A closed mouth gathers no foot.
Open your photo in your normal software programme. If it is similar to others, you should be able to reduce the size by clicking on the edit or image button. You should find something like "image size", and follow the instructions from there. You need to reduce the DIMENSIONS down to about 800 x 600 pixels. Then save it as a jpeg image.
It doesn't make any difference what you are shooting in. It is your software that does the reducing. If you can't find the "image size" facility on your software, you need to press the help button.
Cheers, Linda.

hi Macro
Sparrow has explained what you do very well. i agree with Maisie about Infanview too.
Just I add that I have a Canon and a Nikon camera and the software has the facilities to reduce the size of your pictures. I downloaded the CD's when I bought my new camera (s)
Having said that I find 'Picasa 3' a useful tool, and it is free to use
The one bit of software that I like to use for export facility, cropping pictures, and picture reduction is 'Windows Photo Gallery' (I have Vista, and if I remember correctly 'Windows Photo Gallery' software was already downloaded into the computer).
Hope this helps too.

You could also try just cropping off the unwanted scenery before you save , sometimes that reduces the file size by enough

Good idea with the cropping, Judi.
The photos tend to resize themselves after a certain size is downloaded
Found the photo edit with windows photo gallery if you find it useful

Hi Macro
At the risk of sounding a bit geeky here, when you reduce the image down most times it has a box for resolution or pixel per inch. For web pictures if you set this to 72 it keeps the size of the picture right down. This doesn't effect the picture for the web in any way.
I think I'm in need of help.............

Just found a quick lightroom video on YouTube:-

I too have Windows photo gallery.
I double click on the desired pic, click on 'Fix' and then on 'Crop Picture' then 'Apply'
Even cropping a very little will reduce the picture. My photos are usually over 4 mg to start with.
I hope all this tekky stuff hasn't given you a headache!

Hi,
if you use good old photoshop elements you can select the file size after cropping :)
